Kitchen Garden Project (KGP) – Oyam District
The adoption of sustainable climate-smart agriculture and the challenges of food production and productivity among farming households have become viable solutions to the adverse impacts of climate change. The KGP aims to improve the economic resilience, health, and food security of households in Oyam district through the provision of training in the Kitchen Gardens for the production of nutrient-dense vegetables, improved agricultural practices, income generation skills, financial literacy, life skills and village savings and loan associations (VSLA) methodology. The project ensures that every household has at least one meal a day through year-round access to vegetable food in the kitchen gardens. The Kitchen gardens also provide extra income to the women and the community at large as any surplus vegetable food is sold, and the extra income is used as savings and to buy other family basic needs, adding to the economy and general well-being of households and the community.
